Boven Digul regent named a suspect
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Boven Digul regent Yusak Yaluwo a corruption suspect for abuse of Local Budget and Special Autonomy Funds for Papua.
Total funds allegedly embezzled is about Rp130 billion (US$14 million). Boven Digul has over 43,830 residents. The regency is located at the border of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Boven Digul is home to oil palm plantation of Korindo.
What the Bupati (regent) did with the money? Well...He is known for his Gerakan Membangun Boven Digoel (Gerbang Bodi), a campaign to develop the regency. But lifestyle? Local media reported his wife was involved in illegal trading of alcohol.
