Captain Rokhmin & The Titanic

Rokhmin Daruri, former fisheries minister under Megawati administration, has been tipped as Man of The Year by some of my colleagues. Some politicians and observers even ask the court to lighten the sentence should Rokhmin would be convicted in the trial for corruption.

Imagining Rokhmin as Captain Edward John Smith's Titanic? No.
As written by Encyclopedia Titanica, little is known about Smith's actions in the last two hours of the ships life. His legendary skills of leadership seem to have left him, he was curiously indecisive and unusually cautious. He was last seem in the bridge area having given the final order to abandon ship. He appears to have made no attempt to save himself. His body, if recovered, was never identified.
Rokhmin, for sure, will not end up like that. He could be sentenced, but not for life. The issue is Rokhmin as the 'captain' of the 'scandal' wrote a journal about who's who (got the money) like a captain with his passengers. Rokhmin's 'Titanic' also carries VIPs. He started to disclose the name of his passengers late March with high-profile names in political establishment such as Saefullah Yusuf (former minister for underdeveloped regions). The list has been increasingly gained wider crowds when Didi Sadili, Rohmin staff who oversaw the ministry's non-budgetary funds testified before the court on May 8.
Didi disclosed the money transfered in details to all president hopefuls or their respective teams in 2004 election. Amien Rais got Rp400 million, Megawati Rp280 million, Yudhoyono Rp477.5 million, Wiranto Rp228 million, and Hamzah Haz Rp215 million. Most of these groups denied except Amien Rais who admitted that he accepted the money. Amien also stole public sympathy when he stated that he was ready to be prosecuted. But Amien asked other groups to admit like what he did. Amien went further with allegations that some candidates also received money illegally from overseas donors including former World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz (former US Ambassador to Indonesia).
While Amien didn't mention names, president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reacted angrily to Amien's allegation. An unnecessary Move by president to accuse Amien of slanderous act when Amien didn't mention the president's name!
