2009 President should be college graduate?
The race to 2009 presidential election has been heated up with the proposal to amend the law on presidential candidates that should be university graduates with minimum bachelor degree. You know who's being targeted and you know who will oppose or support this.

And the reasoning behind that will be...... college graduate is more intelligent, kind, humble and will not become a koruptor because he/she has taken business ethic class and receive a passing grade (I did and I got a C)?
Can I be a 2009 Presidential candidate?
I am not sure if I agree with this. Habibie for instance, he's not only college graduate, but he is a PhD, from overseas too. Howeve, that does not make him a good president, at least not from my perspective. We need a president who has a Charisma, decisive, and respected by the people. I think Suharto is the only person who can fulfill all these criterias. This is what makes him a president for more than 30 years. By the way, he's an elementary graduate, :)
OMG...its 2007 not 1800 for crying out loud....its about time we should get have a president with a college degree!!! they don't have to be a scientist from germany...but at least a bachelor degree....its our president! if you still believe that, every1 in the country should stop goin to school cuz with only an elementary graduate we can be a president :)!!! its good to hear if the candidate graduated from FISIP UI...or something like that..you know anything that related with politics...not some degree in religion studies...or that kind of stuff
Excuse me. The last time I looked Indonesia purported to be a democracy. Whether a person has a degree or not is irrelevant. What is important is winning a 51% share of the popular vote. Let the people decide! You may not like the person but it is the masses that should decide who becomes the next President.
Otherwise you could return to the old joke about required attributes for a President: A General, from Java and with 25 years experience in the job.
hahaha i like the old joke! general and from JAVA,that is so true :); however i somewhat agree with the other person. i know its all about the election and 51% share, but dont you think it would be better if all the candidate are college educated? you know just like how we applying for a job, that needs some requirements. if my driver is a high school graduate,..well enough said! todays world is different, i truly believe whoever our president will be, he/she should be educated and also be able to educate the people, that way we wont be viewed as some joke that always being duped by their neighbors! just my 1 cent :)
The President is the leader of our country. If the best person available to lead us couldn't even finish college, I am ashamed of being Indonesian. And not one of those fake degrees that you can buy for 5 installments of Rp50 million, but a reputable degree from a reputable school.
Presidential candidates should at least:
-Finished S1. Masters/Doctorals preferred.
-Understand economics -- economy is the most important problem in developing countries, in my view.
-Speak fluent English. Come on, they have to talk and deal with foreign leaders, it'll be embarrassing if their English is a mess.
Look, I'm not saying that a PhD is definitely a better President than a high school dropout, but come on. President has to deal with international issues - he/she should has the intellectual capacity to handle the workload.
Don't give me that bull about letting the people decide from a universe of just about anybody. Democracy doesn't have a good history of choosing the best leaders for the job. The people tend to vote for superficial things. The higher quality the candidates, the better.
